Since 2010, the Small Business Saturday initiative has been driving consumers to shop with local small businesses. The impact has been felt across the Country. According to American Express, the founder of Small Business Saturday, last year more than 112 million consumers shopped small businesses and independent restaurants on this day, spending an estimated $15.4 billion. Small Business Saturday has quickly become the biggest day for sales for many of our local businesses.
You can join us out at a few of the businesses early next week with your chance to win some prizes! Ethan will be on hand Tuesday from 10-11am at Classic Bean at Fairlawn Plaza and then on Wednesday from 12-1pm at NOTO Burrito!
To encourage the community to shop local and shop small as they prepare for the holidays, on November 7 at 10:30 a.m., Mayor Larry Wolgast will read the official Small Business Saturday proclamation, proclaiming November 25th Small Business Saturday in Topeka and Shawnee County, followed a Hot Chocolate Toast and Kick-Off Reception, at Hazel Hill Chocolate, 724 South Kansas Avenue.
For the third year in a row, on November 25th, Topeka and Shawnee County will embrace the push to Shop Local/Shop Small. “This holiday season consider the role that you can play in growing our economy by supporting our local small businesses on Small Business Saturday,” stated Glenda Washington, senior vice president of EMBD, “visit your local jeweler, baker, restaurant, boutique or the small business of your choice and help tell the story of small businesses in our community. On Small Business Saturday, THINK SMALL, SHOP SMALL, BUY BIG and BUY LOCAL.”
