This Week's Classic Hits Music News…..

Hall and Oates, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Nirvana, Kiss, Brian Epstein, Peter Gabriel, and the E Street Band will all be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the Class of 2014.  They will be honored April 10, 2014, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Reactions to their inductions:

Cat Stevens – "It kind've tickled me".

John Oates – "I'm a little overwhelmed.  We haven't actually celebrated yet, but we will!!"

Peter Gabriel – "I'll probably perform."  He's already in with Genesis, but couldn't attend that ceremony.

Cat Stevens says he's hoping to release a new album before the end of 2014.

 

Blondie just released a brand new single as a digital download.  SUGAR ON THE SIDE , can now be purchased at iTunes in the US and Canada.  They will also be part of the East Coast portion of ABC's DICK CLARKS NEW YEARS ROCKIN’ EVE WITH  RYAN SEACREST 2014.

Bon Jovi was number one on Billboards list of the year's highest grossing tours.  Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band came in at #4, Madonna at #14, Paul McCartney #15, and Fleetwood Mac at #16.

Bruce Springsteen says he's going to check out the back log of music he's stored on his computer and see what speaks to him for his next album.  Meanwhile, His new album HIGH HOPES is due on Jan. 14.

Carlos Santana played a concert outside of Guadalajara, Mexico to preview his upcoming Latin music all star collaboration album CORAZON.  Its being billed as the "Supernatural of Latin music".  They are looking at spring release.  Meanwhile, the group Santana met to discuss a record that will be called SANTANA 4.  They are expected to start work in the Spring.

Foreigner – big plans for 2014.  They've already lined up a North American tour leg, now they have mapped out two European concerts.  The Band has also introduced a free app that can be used on Apple and  Android mobile devices that allows fans to listen to songs and watch videos by the band, find out the latest news via the groups Facebook page and upload photos from  Foreigners concerts.  You can download now at Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Patti LaBelle will headline the 15th annual NFL Sanctioned Super Bowl Gospel Celebration on Friday, Jan. 31 in NYC.

Paul McCartney – you can now purchase a high quality vinyl version of NEW, his latest album .

Rolling Stones – The exact location in Dartford, England where Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were reintroduced to each while waiting for a train to their respective colleges, on Oct.17, 1961. will be marked with a plaque.

Rolling Stones new concert film SWEET SUMMER SUN–RETURN TO HYDE PARK will have its world TV Premiere Sunday night on Showtime at 9pm ET.

Styx and REO Speedwagon’s benefit concert to aid victims of last month's damaging tornadoes in Central Illinois raised $400, 783!!  The concert also featured Ted Nugent, Richard Marx, Survivor, Head East, and Larry the Cable Guy!!

Beach Boys – A planned biopic about the late Dennis Wilson titled THE DRUMMER has been indefinitely shelved.

Beatles –  NYC will host a four-day series of events this February celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles historic first trip to the US.  The NYC 50 EXTRAVAGANZA is scheduled to take place Feb. 6-9.

Beatles – In celebration of the upcoming 50th anniversary of their first historic trip to America, will release a new box set gathering CD versions of the 13 Beatles albums released. THE US ALBUMS hits stores on Jan. 21.

Beatles – The Isley Brothers and Kris Kristofferson are among the artists whom The Recording Academy will honor next month with Special Merit Awards.  They will be recognized with Lifetime Achievement awards on the evening before the 56th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony.

Billy Joel will say hello to Hollywood, playing a concert at tbe legendary  Hollywood Bowl venue for the first time on May 17, eight days after his 65th birthday.

Boston recently released their new studio album, LIFE, LOVE & HOPE, and now they have released a brand new Christmas single, GOD REST YE METAL GENTLEMEN 2013, is available now as a digital download via iTunes.

Crosby, Stills and Nash have scheduled their first concerts of 2014, playing a variety of US cities in the Midwest and Southeast.  David Crosby will be releasing a new solo album title CROZ on Jan. 27, and will tour in support.  Stephen Stills recently formed a blues rock super group called The Rides that released an album titled CAN'T GET ENOUGH, and Graham Nash published a memoir titled WILD TALES in September.

Dave Mason will be hitting the road with a new project he's dubbed  Dave Mason's Traffic Jam.  It features Mason performing songs from Traffic's first two albums, his solo stuff, and some new material.  He is planning to release a new EP titled FUTURES PAST next year.  Get info at DaveMasonMusic.com.

Elton John, The Bee Gees, Paul McCartney, and America are among the groups who have tunes featured on the soundtrack to the new Golden Globe nominated film AMERICAN HUSTLE.  The album is available digitally now, and will be available on CD on December 24.

Heart is releasing a new high definition concert video capturing Heart playing songs from their latest studio album FANATIC, as well as their classic hits.  FANATIC: LIVE FROM CAESARS COLOSSEUM hits stores Feb  25,  and will available as a cd/dvd package, as well as a standalone dvd, blu ray and digital video.

John Lennon, Heart, Jackson Browne and members of the E Street Band are featured on a a new charity compilation titled TUNES4FOOD–REDEMPTION DAY, can be purchased now as a digital download at iTunes or as a Cd at select music stores via eBay.

John Mellencamp says he has written dozens of new songs in preparation for a follow up to his 2010 album NO BETTER THAN THIS.  He says he has a notebook with 85 new songs!

Monkee's –  Mike Nesmith will return to TV making a guest appearance on the upcoming fourth season of the IFC sketch comedy show PORTLANDIA, which kicks off Feb.27 at 10p, ET.

Neil Young has scheduled four concerts in his home country of Canada next month to raise money to help a legal battle against oil companies and the Canadian govt.  The HONOR THE TREATIES concerts will benefit an organization that protects the indigenous citizens' traditional lands and environment.

Paul McCartney will be competing for four Grammy Awards at next years ceremony, which CBS will air live on Jan. 26.

Police – A new installment of PBS' GREAT PERFORMANCES series featuring Sting playing songs for his latest album THE LAST SHIP, will premiere on Feb. 21 at 9pm ET.

Prince is reportedly set to make a rare TV appearance in an episode of NEW GIRL set to air on Super Bowl Sunday.

Queen – Producers behind the biopic about Freddie Mercury have found and actor to take the lead role, as well as a director.  Ben Whishaw, who played Q in the James Bond movie Skyfall, will portray Mercury, while actor turned director Dexter Fletcher will direct.

Rolling Stones – concert film SWEET SUMMER SUN–RETURN TO HYDE PARK, will get its world television premiere on Showtime, Friday, Dec. 20 at 9pm ET.  It was also released on DVD, Blu ray and as a digital download on Nov. 11.

Stevie Wonder is helping out his friend Dionne Warwick on her latest album FEELS SO GOOD, which arrives in stores this May.

Aerosmith has announced at 2014 European leg if its GLOBAL WARMING tour.  Steven Tyler is also working on a new solo album, and has spoken to Paul McCartney and Elton John about possibly collaborating with him.

Albums by George Harrison, Neil Young, CCR, and Chicago are among the recordings that will be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014.  They will be acknowledged during the 56th annual Grammy Awards on Jan. 16 on CBS.

Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding are both releasing box sets on Feb 4.  Aretha's is titled THE QUEEN OF SOUL, and Otis Redding’s is titled THE KING OF SOUL, and both will feature dozens of tracks and sell for about $45.

Bad Finger – The bands last surviving member, Joey Molland, has released a new solo album titled RETURN TO MEMPHIS.  It hasn't been officially released in the US yet, but can be purchased online at GonzoMultimedia.com.

Billy Joel has announced he'll be doing a show at NYC's Madison Square Garden once a month, for as long as there is interest.  He has already booked six shows at that venue. He now reports he'll be performing in Detroit and Pittsburgh as well.  Go to BillyJoel.com for details.

Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora says he predicts a Bon Jovi reunion "down the road", and says he took a break from the band to spend time with his daughter.

Boston released LIFE, LOVE & HOPE this week.  It’s their sixth studio album and first in 11 years.

James Taylor, The Mamas and Papa's Michelle Philips, Pete Townshend, Carlos Santana and Bill Withers are among the stars who have contributed to a new book discussing their recordings that have been inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame, which marks its 40th anniversary in 2014.

Joan Jett is one of the artists that will be at the 13th annual edition of Alice Cooper's CHRISTMAS PUDDING benefit show this Saturday night in Phoenix.

Madonna came in at # 5 among Bing's "Most Searched For" list of 2014. Beyonce was #1!

Neil Diamond, Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, England Dan and John Ford Coley and Argent will all be featured on the soundtrack to the new Will Ferrell comedy sequel ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES.  The soundtrack hits stores on Dec. 17, one day before the movie opens.

Neil Young's new archival concert album, LIVE AT THE CELLAR DOOR, won’t be released until Dec. 10, but you can check out the whole recording online at RollingStone.com.

Paul McCartney, John Fogerty, Elton John and David Bowie have all made Rolling Stones list of 50 BEST ALBUMS OF 2013.  Paul's "NEW" was number 4, Fogerty's WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE was #10. Bowies THE NEXT DAY was #16, while Elton's THE DIVING BOARD at # 25.

Paul McCartney's latest album NEW, has a new documentary offering behind the scenes footage about the making of the album.  PAUL MCCARTNEY: SOMETHING NEW airs on the Palladis channel and on VH1 Classic on Friday, Dec. 13, 9 pm ET.

Phil Collins has said recently that he started working on new music, and is thinking of playing some concerts again…maybe even a with his old band, Genesis.

The Rascals multimedia reunion show ONCE UPON A DREAM, that was scheduled to hit Broadway this month have been nixed because of Steven Van Zandt's busy schedule, working with Bruce and the E Street Band and filming his Netflix series LILLYHAMMER.    They are hoping to reschedule when Stevie has more time.

The Rolling Stones have not only announced as series of 2014 concerts in Australia and New Zealand, they have now revealed they will also visit Japan, China, and the Middle East.

The Rolling Stones Keith Richards has just signed on to once again play the father of Jack Sparrow in the fifth installment of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise.
